     MacLink seems to be a really strange beast. You need to do this:

     tell application "Finder"
     open (alias "Mac HD:some folder:your filename here") using ¬
     (alias "Mac HD:Apple Extras:MacLinkPlus:to SimpleText picture")
     end tell

     This is the first instance I have ever seen where having the Finder
     address an application gives a different result than having AppleScript

     address the application.

     It looks like you've been successful making this work on your computer.
     I'm not having success. Both file to be translated and the document
     converter are on the desktop of the same machine at this point.

     Using the formulation you posted I get a "file wasn't found" error when
     testing the syntax in the script editor. (I've tried it with all the
     variations to the path I can think of but get the same thing.

     The following passes the syntax check but Applescript returns "Finder
     got an error: Invalid Key Form" in a dialog.

     tell application "Finder"
     open ("HD:Heartla1RTF") using ("HD:to Microsoft Word Mac 4, 5, 5.")
     end tell
